1.  New rules and limitations for depreciation and expensing


The Tax Cuts and Jobs Act brings changes for small businesses in 2018 and beyond. To help business owners understand new rules and limitations for depreciation and expensing under the new law, the IRS recently released Fact Sheet 2018-9.

2.  2017 refund can be used for 2018 estimated tax payment


Small business/self-employed individuals due a refund on their 2017 federal tax return may be able to reduce or skip one or more of their estimated tax payments by applying their 2017 refund to their 2018 estimated tax. See Form 1040 and instructions for more information

3.  Working together to stop tax scams and schemes


Savvy small business owners who become aware of any illegal tax scam or scheme are encouraged to report them to the appropriate IRS contact: Tax Scams — How to Report Them.

4.  IRS supports Small Business Week: April 29 – May 5


Each year the SBA's National Small Business Week recognizes the important contributions of the nation's many entrepreneurs. As in prior years, the IRS will provide the latest updates and IRS.gov information of interest to small businesses through various news channels, including a special edition e-News for Small Business on Monday, April 30.
