1. Multifactor authentication implemented for IDES As a result of the implementation of multifactor authentication on December 13, 2024, IDES users must sign in with a unique authentication code. Users will receive a unique authentication code, sent to their associated IDES account email, each time they attempt to sign into their IDES account with their username and password. The user must enter this authentication code when prompted to obtain access to IDES. This sign in method provides an additional layer of security for IDES users. If you are having problems signing in to your IDES account, please contact the IDES Help Desk. 2. IDES notifications and system operations The IDES team continues to monitor system operations and the timely and accurate delivery of filing notifications to IDES users. We will notify you of any system outages or undeliverable notifications. However, if you are experiencing any IDES system issues, delayed or missed notifications, please notify the IDES Help Desk. 3. Information on new and existing digital certificates IDES will not accept new Entrust digital certificates after March 1, 2025. Existing Entrust digital certificates will continue to be valid until the certificate's expiration. If you need to select a new digital certificate, please select from IRS approved certificate authorities. 4. How to request an extension to file FATCA Report Use Form 8809-I, Application for Extension of Time to File FATCA Form 8966, to request an extension for FATCA Report filing. In general, Form 8809-I must be mailed before March 31, 2025, the due date for Form 8966. Review forms and instructions for Form 8809-I and Form 8966. This process replaces the interim process from 2024 when extension requests were submitted through the IDES Help Desk. Thank you for subscribing to FATCA News & Information, an IRS e-mail service.
