1.  Manual IDES confirmations sent to IDES users

The IRS sent manual email notifications of IDES transmissions to IDES users on Oct.18 – Nov.1, 2024. We ask that you review these notifications and follow the instructions in the email regarding whether there are any transmissions that may need to be resubmitted to IDES.

If you believe that you should have received an email notification and have not yet received one from the IRS, please email us at lbi.fatca.ides@irs.gov. We will research your inquiry and provide you an update regarding your IDES transmission notifications. Please include any information you have regarding the file transmitted, including file name, transmission ID, and sending GIIN.

As always, during any IDES transmission, ensure:

  1. Your authorized security certificate is uploaded and current on the IDES enrollment website.
  2. You are following IRS best practices for data preparation and uploads

Additional guidance and information can be found in the IRS FATCA Report Notifications Frequently Asked Questions and the IDES User Guide.

Please continue to report any issues with IDES to questions@ides-support.com.

Enrolled IDES users can utilize the IDES Web Dashboard to obtain more information on historical IDES transmissions. 4.  Upcoming IDES multi-factor authentication implementation

IDES will implement a multi-factor authentication option for a more secure sign-in to the IDES system. The planned implementation is scheduled for December 12, 2024.

The implementation will require users to obtain a unique authentication code sent to their associated email accounts. There will not be an option to receive an authentication code through users' cellular phones.

We will continue to keep you updated on the IDES multi-factor authentication implementation.

5.  Reminder: IDES use for entities not required to obtain a GIIN

It is important for all financial institutions to be aware that a registered Global Intermediary Identification Number (GIIN) or FATCA Identification Number (FIN) is required for a successful FATCA filing. If you are a Financial Institution (FI) filing on behalf of another FI or Third-Party Filer, please ensure that there is a FIN or GIIN registered with an associated IDES user account for each FATCA filing that is filed on behalf of another FI.

You may encounter an IDES filing error notification of "Certificate Error – No Certificate Found for the GIIN" or "Digital Signature Error" if a GIIN or FIN is not associated with the FI FATCA report that is filed by another FI.

For more information, please see the FATCA IDES technical FAQs regarding IDES use for entities not required to obtain a GIIN

Financial Institution(s) above includes but are not limited to:

  • Depository institutions (for example, banks).
  • Custodial institutions (for example, mutual funds).
  • Investment entities (for example, hedge funds or private equity funds).
  • Certain types of insurance companies that have cash value products or annuities.
  • USWA, TFI, third party preparers, and independent software vendors.
